The origin of massage goes as far back as human kind as a touch is the most instinctive reaction for both tenderness and pain.
What is massage?
Massage is a therapy that consists of touch which both stimulates and helps to maintain the balance between our body and mind. By palpation, pressure and eflurage the effects are both relaxing and energy boost. The massage can make you feel either ready to run a marathon or it can make you feel physically and mentally relaxed. The skin, muscle groups, the skeleton, blood circulation and the meridians will be affected, and creates a feeling of being complete, which releases our own inner healing resources.
I always check during the massage if there are any changes in the tissue and adjust the massage continuously, so that the massage is always adjusted to your needs. As a physiotherapist I use the massage in treatments of different muscle pains. Both acute and the more chronic muscle pains.
If you muscles are tight and tense you risk that your mobility becomes limited and that your tendons and ligament become tense and overloaded. Muscles and tendons that are tense are more likely to tear if they are overloaded. It is therefore very important that you start treatment as soon as you feel the symptoms like i.e. cramps.
Massage treatment:
The treatment depends on your problem and you needs. It can be centred to one area if that us where the problem is. You might also feel that you need a relaxing body massage which does not focus on one specific area, but the whole body. This form for massage also treats small flaws.
The treatment of more chronic, stiff muscles is not always comfortable, but I will only massage you as to what you are comfortable with. The older the injury the more treatments you need. The outer muscles needs total relaxation before you can loosen up for the inner muscle group. When you arrive for you treatment it is always a good idea to have eaten a couple of hours before hand and not on a full stomach. Stay away from alcohol and make sure that you have drunk plenty of water beforehand. The massage will start a detoxing of you body and the toxic waste need the water for it to disappear from you body. A normal reaction after a massage is tiredness. For the best effect after the treatment you need to relax!
A massage is a gift to your body and it creates the perfect balance between body and mind and is unsurpassed when you need to relax or need to gather your thoughts and senses. You also become more aware of your body and it reactions on everything that happens in your life.
